When I was only 7 years old in 1996 just as the war was ending, I returned to live in Lebanon. At that point I was excited to meet my family and to live a new life. I was happy here in Canada but I liked the idea for some reason. As soon as we arrived in Lebanon, of course nothing was what we expected. It was dirty, there was no electricity, I knew of the violence and didn’t know much else, I thought the Lebanese weren’t like the Canadians … not polite or nice. I went to school and for the first time wanted to just run away- schools in Canada were nothing like that. At the age of 11, after much thought, my parents decided Canada was the better choice for us in all aspects. And they weren’t wrong. Canada in my lifetime did me many favours. And I am after all Canadian. Today, 9 years later. I am 20 years old and I think of Lebanon just like a child ..

“مش هيّنة تكون لبناني”.. شعار (أو شي عار) قرقع رؤوسنا، وأُنفِقت الأموال الطائلة لتمويل حملته الدعائية، وافتخرت به شركات “الاستراتيجيات”، ووضعه كاتبو الخطابات نصب أعينهم، واتخذه الشوفينيون مذهبًا على سبيل “التجديد”، حين بدأت شعاراتهم القديمة تتعفن في “مزابل التاريخ” التي أرادوا إرسال الناس إليها..
ولعلَّ أكثر ما يثير العجب، أنِّي أتَّفق تمامًا مع واضع هذا الشعار، رغم التناقض التامّ بيننا في ما يخضُّ الخلفيات.. تناقضًا قد لا يكون إلا ظاهريًا(!). فلأكرِّرِ الشعار على طريقتي: “من وسائل جلد الذات.. أن تكون لبنانيًا”.

أن تعيش في هذه الدنيا وتمضي أكثر من نصف عمرك لتحاول أن تتعرف على الروح التي تسكن في داخلك شيء عظيم إن نجحت بالتعرف على مزايا تلك الروح ،ولكن وللاسف الشديد الكثيرين يمضون حياتهم منهمكين بأمور تافهه أو على الأقل أقل أهمية من مهمة التعرف على الروح ،هل هناك مأساة أكبر من أنك تعمل وتجتهد كل ايام حياتك لهذه الروح من دون أن تتعرف عليها ؟ يمكن البعض لا يحب المرآة ولا ينظر فيها لسببٍ أو لآخر لان مرآة الحياة تعكس وجهاً لا يحبون أن يتشبهون به وهذا الانعكاس قد يسبب لهم الأرق ويجبرهم على إتخاذ تدابير معينة وربما جذرية لكي تنسجم صورة الروح مع صورة الوجه الخارجي .
