Madonna of the Arab World to visit Malawi
lebjournal.com-Pop Star celebrity in the Middle East Haifa Wehbe is expected to visit Malawi after the month of Ramadan this year.
Moroccan Red Ribbon Charity president Simo Ben Bachir who has been in Malawi arranging for the pop star’s visit, said that Wehbe will tour Malawi as one way of highlighting the plight of Malawians regarding HIV and AIDS situation.
He said that Wehbe plans to use her celebrity status in the Arab world to raise awareness on HIV and AIDS as well as highlight the problems orphaned children face in Malawi.
He disclosed that the money that Wehbe will raise through the Malawi visit will go to one of the Raising Malawi project which the pop star Madonna founded.
Bachir explained that majority of the people in the Middle East do not have much knowledge about Malawi hence the need for a tour by a celebrity from the Arab world.
Countries in the Middle East have lower levels of HIV and AIDS prevalence compared to the Sub-Saharan Africa which alone is home to about 40 percent of all new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths globally.
